Player to Watch ā€“ Goalkeeper Matt Cardone has recorded three shutouts in his last five games for San Antonio FC. The 26-year-old San Antonio native currently sits second in the league in saves with 59 ā€“ including a bear claw of a save as a Save of the Week nominee against Orange County SC ā€“ and has made a total of six shutouts thus far in 2019. Look for Cardone to try and add another clean sheet to his record when he defends the San Antonio goal from a Monarchs side that sits 5th in the league for goals scored.


History ā€“ Heading into the second clash of 2019 between the two sides, San Antonio FC leads the all-time series with a record of 3-2-1. In late April, Real Monarchs hosted San Antonio at Zions Bank Stadium that saw the Monarchs mount a comeback with three unanswered goals after going down early. With two penalties and Kyle Coffeeā€™s first professional goal ā€“ the game-winning strike ā€“ Real Monarchs were able to walk away with three points in hand. Now the Utah side heads to Toyota Field where it has yet to pick up the win in with record of 0-1-1.


Last Five ā€“ San Antonio FC have been able to pick up points in four of its last five games, with a record of 2-1-2. After dropping the result in a 3-2 loss to Fresno FC, San Antonio has gone on to scoreless draws with El Paso Locomotive FC and Orange County SC, while picking up the three points over 2019 expansion sides Austin Bold FC and the Locos. San Antonio now aims to defend its home from a Utah side that is searching extend its undefeated streak to seven games, all while trying to extend its own four-game undefeated streak.
