Claret-and-Cobalt Look to Return to Winning Ways in Intimidating Atmosphere of JELD-WEN Field;

ABC4’s Live Coverage Begins with 8:00 p.m. MT Kickoff in Portland

SANDY, Utah (Friday, March 30, 2012)Real Salt Lake (2-1-0, 6 pts.) will return to MLS action tomorrow, Saturday, March 31, when the squad heads to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Portland Timbers (1-1-1, 4 pts.) at JELD-WEN Field. ABC4’s live, high-definition coverage from Portland will start with the 8:00 p.m. MT kickoff and conclude with a 30-minute post-game wrap up at 10:00 p.m. Fans will also be able to listen to the action live via the team’s official radio partners: ESPN 700/ and La Gran D 102.3 FM.

Tomorrow’s match will be the first in a three-game, eight-day span for RSL, one in which Head Coach Jason Kreis will likely have to rely heavily on his squad’s depth in contests against Portland (3/31), Montreal (4/04) and Colorado (4/07). The stretch thankfully coincides with the possible return to the starting XI of no less than four regulars – DF Nat Borchers, MF Will Johnson, MF Javier Morales and FW Álvaro Saborío – all of whom have seen their minutes increase in recent weeks either off the substitutes’ bench in regular season play or via lengthy runs in RSL’s recent MLS Reserve League contests.

RSL History v. Portland Timbers

Coming off the heels of its first defeat of the campaign over the weekend against Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake will have the unenviable task of trying to get back into the win column in the intimidating atmosphere of JELD-WEN Field, where RSL dropped a 0-1 result last April 30 (Kenny Cooper 22) in its first-ever visit to the Rose City. The two sides also met in last year’s regular season finale at Rio Tinto Stadium on Oct. 22, when RSL had to settle for a 1-1 draw after seeing FW Álvaro Saborío’s 45th minute tally offset by DF Futty Danso’s 91st minute equalizer. / /
