Real Salt Lake’s next Family Initiative, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Community Walk, holds a special place in the heart of RSL Partnership Services Coordinator, Autumn Jenson.
Jensen lost her stepfather to suicide in 2015 which opened her eyes to the importance of mental health.
“I realized that there are so many people out there that struggle with mental health and how you need to take care of yourself and the people around you,” said Jenson.
After participating in the AFSP walk last year, she thought it would be a great idea to get the entire Club involved the following year. After proposing the walk to the RSL Family Initiative board, her idea was approved and RSL donated $10,000 to the cause.
This year’s walk will be taking place at Veterans Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 and there will be a resource fair and remembrance tent that participants can visit before and after the event.
RSL fans are encouraged to both donate and participate in the walk ahead of the Club’s home match against D.C. United on Saturday. More details can be found here.
