Real Monarchs Extends Home Win Streak to Five Games

HERRIMAN, Utah (Saturday, August 10, 2019) â€“ Real Monarchs SLC (10-6-4, 34 points)claimed three points with a 4-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday night in front of a home crowd of 2,221 fans.


FW Damian German scored his second goal in as many games while MFs Jack Blake and Maikel Chang extended their scoring tallies in 2019. DF Kalen Ryden became the 18th player to score for the Monarchs in 2019 and MF Cristian Calix made his Monarchs debut in the 82nd minute.

The Monarchs controlled the game from the outset, putting away the opening goal early in the 17th minute through German, who redirected his shot from a quick series of passing from Chang and FW Luis Arriaga. The Monarchs remained in control for the rest of the first half, but ultimately wasn’t able to extend its league before the referee blew the whistle for the break.
Momentum began to swing towards Tulsa Roughnecks in the second half, but the Monarchs defense stood strong, keeping Roughnecks FC to just one shot on target throughout the night. Blake extended the Monarchs lead with a freekick that beat out Roughnecks goalkeeper Sean Lewis before Chang tied up the race for the Monarchs Golden Boot with his ninth goal of the season by cleaning up a rebounded shot off the post. Ryden put away a deflected ball of his own with a headed effort to help secure the Monarchs win. Tulsa Roughnecks FC took the last goal of the night after Tobenna Uzo snuck in shot from a cross in second-half stoppage time.

GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN

SLC: Damian German (Luis Arriaga, Maikel Chang), 17th minute: As Real Monarchs began to crowd around the attacking third, MF Maikel Chang put a cross in that found Arriaga at the near post. Arriaga sent the pass over to German on the far side of Roughnecks goalkeeper Sean Lewis, who redirected the ball to open the scoring.


SLC: Jack Blake, 56th minute: After earning the freekick just on the other side of the penalty area, Blake stood up to take the opportunity. Blake’s shot curved perfectly into the top corner of the near post, beating the Roughnecks goalkeeper, doubling the Monarchs lead.


SLC: Kalen Ryden, 76th minute: After Coffee made the run forward into a dangerous spot near the Roughnecks goal, his shot took a wild deflection that flew into the air. Ryden was there to meet the end of the ball, heading in the shot which Lewis got a touch to, but was just not enough to stop.


SLC: Maikel Chang, 90th minute: After Jack Blake blasted a shot in towards goal that bounced off the post, Chang was quick to make the recovery for the Monarchs. Rushing in towards the ball, Chang took one touch to clean up and put away the fourth and final goal for the Monarchs.


TUL: Tobenna Uzo (Cristhian Altamirano) 91st minute: Almost immediately after the whistle blew again from Chang's previous goal, Roughnecks FC found a way to pull a goal back. Altamirano got the ball into the attacking third on the right side and sent a high cross towards the middle where Uzo made a jump to get a foot in to push the ball past GK David Ochoa for the only Roughnecks goal.

TUL: Sean Lewis, 32nd minute: During a mounting attack from the Monarchs, Jack Blake found an opportunity to rifle a shot that looked like it was going to be the second Monarchs goal. Lewis came up big with a diving save however to deflect the shot and keep the Monarchs with the one goal lead.
TUL: Luca Lobo, 75th minute: Monarchs Jack Blake nearly had the brace after finding a wide open space on the far post from Luis Arriaga’s cross. As Blake took his shot, from nowhere with recovery speed, Lobo slide

- FW Damian German tallied his second goal in as many games after picking up his first professional goal last week against Colorado Springs.
- MF Cristian Calix made his debut after subbing on to the pitch for the 82nd minute for FW Luis Arriaga.
