HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, August 1, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC (8-7-4, 28 points, 9 West) returns home to Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah to welcome Four-Corners rival, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The match-up is scheduled for Friday, August 2 with an evening kickoff time of 8:00 p.m. MT.
Friday’s contest is highlighted by the second Pups at the Pitch night of 2019. Fans can bring their furry friends to Zions Bank Stadium to enjoy a night of soccer for just $20. Tickets include seats for one dog and one human and comes with a Real Monarchs/LiveVantage pet bandana and must be purchased in advance. Real Monarchs suffered its first loss since May last Saturday, when it dropped a 3-1 result to San Antonio FC. After San Antonio FC picked up two goals in the first half, FW Lionel Etoundi was shown a red card in the 42nd minute after going in for a late and dangerous tackle. Real Monarchs managed to punish a San Antonio mistake to pick up a goal through MF Luis Palma and fought through the second half to find the equalizer that wasn’t meant to be as SAFC put the game to rest with a late third.
Now the Monarchs return home to continue its journey in the Four-Corners Cup against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC this Friday. The Monarchs found its first road win of 2019 against Colorado Springs in late June after mounting a comeback with two unanswered goals though FW Kyle Coffee and RSL MF Justin Portillo. Going into the next chapter of the Four-Corners Cup, the Monarchs sit second on the regional cup table while Colorado Springs sits at the bottom.

Moving into the second half of the 2019, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 16 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who recorded the club’s first hat-trick in the dominant 5-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance on July 12, pushing his goal count to nine in 15 games played. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continues to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 13 goals and 2 assists as of July 24.
In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 16 starts and appearance so far this season. DF Stanley Okumu has made an impact of his own on the Monarchs roster, having played 10 games and becoming the first player in club history to be named to a final roster for the Kenyan National Team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Pairedwith fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, and Konrad Plewa, the Monarchs backline has begun to solidify and limiting the opposing attack to help in pushing Real Monarchs up the Western Conference with its current run of form.
In goal, U-20 USMNT star GK David Ochoa leads the Monarchs with three clean sheets and 40 saves in ten appearances. Ochoa has recently returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster. GK Andrew Putna has also made appearances in goal for the Monarchs this season, tallying two clean sheets and 11 saves in five appearances for the club.
