RSL Academy Product Julian Vasquez Scores Against Russia

With Real Salt Lake missing multiple regulars for its Saturday match against LAFC, the club’s international call-ups have been away making their marks for their countries. Julian Vazquez is currently featuring for the Mexico U-18 side in the Sportchain Cup held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.


On Wednesday, Vazquez scored in Mexico’s 3-2 win over the Russian U-18 side at Sevens Stadium to help his country claim its first win in Dubai. Vazquez and the rest of the Mexican U-18 side will face Belgium on Friday before closing their trip to Dubai against England on Sunday.


Although Vazquez has yet to make his professional club debut, he has seen his experience grow throughout preseason and the first few weeks of the season. Vazquez notched his a goal in RSL’s preseason against V-Varen Nagasaki in the Pacific Rim Cup final in Honolulu, Hawaii. Taking the ball past his defenders at the top of the penalty area, Vazquez unleashed a left-footed rocket into the top left corner of the net, a goal dream first professional goal.


A prolific striker at the Academy level, the Brigham City, Utah native signed with RSL in October 2018 as the club’s 16th homegrown player.


Real Salt Lake is currently 1-1-1 (4 points) and faces LAFC on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. MT with broadcast coverage on KMYU, the KSL TV app, KSL.com and ESPN 700.  After the club’s match against LAFC, RSL will return home to face FC Dallas on March 30.
