RSL U-17s Topple San Jose Earthquakes 3-1

Real Salt Lake U-17 3-1 San Jose Earthquakes U-17

Real Salt Lake’s U-17 contingent opened its 2018 Generation adidas slate with a 3-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes U-17s on Friday afternoon. A back-and-forth first half of the opening stanza saw RSL fall under pressure on several occasions, but the backline held strong. In the 25th minute midfielder Bode Davis fielded a pass from Paul Paul Gindiri before calmly slamming the ball into the open net to open the scoring for RSL. Just five minutes later, San Jose found the equalizer when Salvador Miranda headed home a beautiful cross between two defenders to leave RSL goalkeeper Rafael Guerrero stranded as the ball found the back of the net.

The second half began heavily in favor of RSL who pulled back in front when Christopher Garcia put home a crafty finish inside the penalty area for the 2-1 lead. RSL doubled its advantage in the 56th minute when Mateo Palomino headed a long-distance effort off the far post and into the net, leaving San Jose goalkeeper Marcelo Echeverria rooted to the spot. RSL continued to apply the pressure but couldn’t find its fourth goal as the game finished 3-1 in favor of RSL.
