Match Against Orange County is First of Two Crucial Matches in Southern California this Week

HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, September 18, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (17-9-3, 54 points, 3 West) travel to Southern California to face Orange County SC on Wednesday, September 19 at 8:00 p.m. MT for a crucial clash of Western Conference eliteInterim Head Coach Jamison Olave will look to lead the team in an effort to halt a six-match losing run away from Zions Bank Stadium and usher the Monarchs into the USL Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Against Orange County, the Monarchs could potentially secure a playoff berth for the second straight season with two scenarios factoring into a possible berth. Below are the scenarios in which the Monarchs could reach the playoffs on Wednesday:

  1. The Monarchs claim victory over Orange County SC on Wednesday.
  2. The Monarchs draw with Orange County SC, AND there is a winner between Swope Park and San Antonio on Wednesday night, dropping the losing team in that contest to a maximum-available-points total of 55.

If the Monarchs are to claim victory over Orange County on Wednesday, it would see the club claim its second ever – and second consecutive – playoff berth. A win would place the Utah side on 57 points with four matches remaining in the 2018 regular-season with 69 points still available. The Monarchs would then have the opportunity to surpass its points total from the 2017 season where it earned 67 points and earn 69 total points if it is to win its remaining regular-season matches.

Real Monarchs moved away from the home of Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC at Rio Tinto Stadium in April to christen the new, 5,000 seat Zions Bank Stadium on the campus of the $78 million Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman, Utah. The state-of-the-art venue will boast a full-service press box and broadcasting booth as well as concessions on either side of the stadium. Officially opening April 2018, the Monarchs will host 17 regular-season matches at Zions Bank Stadium in the first year at the league’s newest venue starting with an April 30 match against Las Vegas Lights FC for the first ever “Saints-and-Sinners/I-15” Rivalry.

The Herriman facility provides adjacencies for an on-site charter school in conjunction with the Jordan School District, which opened last August, focusing on STEM disciplines (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) for nearly 300 boys and girls, kicking off a new era for both sports and education in Utah.

Last December in North Logan, Utah, RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen christened the opening of the first of a half-dozen regional training centers across Utah and Arizona to be built in the next 2-3 years.  Each $5 million RTC houses a classroom, as well as an indoor and outdoor field, dedicated to fulfilling a curriculum consistent with the club's vision and mission for youth soccer training and education, and the continued development of both recreational and competitive pre-Academy (ages 7-14) initiatives across Utah and Arizona.
