QUOTE SHEET
Real Monarchs SLC 3-2 Tulsa Roughnecks FC
Zions Bank Stadium; Herriman, Utah
June 26, 2018
Real Monarchs SLC
Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave
On the game:

“I feel good about the result. In this game, we could talk about two games. In the first half we were the better team. Good with the ball, movement, rotation in the middle, confidence, 2-0 in the first half. It could have been three or four zero, but we didn’t put the chances away and kill the game. In the second half, 20 seconds in and they have the first chance. They went 2-1 and then 2-2, the game is open. The game was just going back and back, one came in, we found that PK and we won the game. We’re talking about two different games.”

On the chances taken:
“I’m happy. We’re creating chances, we should put every chance away – that’s what we want but it’s not possible. 4-0, 5-0, and for me, that’s game done. We didn’t do it. Second half, 2-2, we’re still having chances but not putting them away and they tie the game. That PK in the end gave us three points but the chances are there. We put them away and that should be enough to win. For the backline, we allowed to concede two goals playing at home too. We need to see the chances we create, the chances we don’t put away, and defensively, what kind of mistakes we made in the game.”

Forward Chandler Hoffman

On his feelings about the game:
“Obviously I’m pleased with two goals, but I’m extremely disappointed I didn’t put that third one away because it’s more than just the hat-trick, it puts the game away. I hit the post and then they come down and score and we make it way more difficult than we needed to. It showed a lot of gut though to be able to win 3-2, but we’ve got to correct that.”

On 14 Monarchs players earning goals:

“It shows that we have a group that is dangerous no matter who is on the field, from one to 18. Everyone that has scored as shown that everyone is one capable and there is not just one or two players that they key on. If they mark them out of the game then other players are going to step up and score goals.”

On the amount of chances created:

“It’s great, all the opportunities we created but we have to be sharper and clinical, especially since we have ten games left going into playoffs. We have start clicking on all cylinders going into the playoffs. It’s great that we are creating chances but we have to be focused and put them away.”

On playing through the last ten games:

“You just have to put our chances away, that’s what it comes down to. When you let teams back into the game, we’re up 2-0 and full control, we don’t put our chances away, teams can counter and there are going to be opportunities for teams to score goals when they counter with the way that we play. We have to be more effective in front goal than the way we were.”

Tulsa Roughnecks FC
Interim Head Coach Michael Nsien

On the performance of his team:
“It was a shaky start, but we were able to organize things at halftime and came out and make a good impression, ultimately tying the game. If we’re in a position that we’re trying for a playoff spot maybe we take the point and close the game out, but we felt it was worth going where we are at in this stage of the season. There are no small victories, we wanted to go out and get three points so I’m proud of my players for pushing for 90 minutes.”

On Fabien Cerda’s performance:

“When Fabian is focused he one of the top keepers in this league and maybe the league above. As long as he is on track and doing what he is supposed to do he is going to make good saves. He has great distribution and ultimately, he is a good leader. I’m happy with his effort today.”

On moving forward:

“We just need to organize a mindset. Psychologically, how do we go out and compete with the top teams in the league? Do we have the ability to do it? I think we’ve shown that we do, it’s more about organization, structure, and getting the right mentality to get across the finish line.”

Midfielder Eti Tavares

On coming back to Utah:
“It feels amazing. I wasn’t here when they started building this new facility. Coming here and seeing – I really have no words. The view, how the field looks, the fans were cheering. It’s amazing. The atmosphere was great.”

On scoring against the Monarchs:
“It feels great, but at the same time, I realize the club as done so much for me, I couldn’t celebrate. So, I show my respect.”
