MF Charlie Adams and FW Maikel Chang Each Score as Monarchs Remain Unbeaten at 9-0-1 at Zions Bank Stadium and 10-0-1 at Home Overall; Monarchs Back in Action Saturday at Oklahoma City Energy FC

HERRIMAN, Utah (Wednesday, August 8, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (15-5-2, 47 points, 1 West) fell behind early, but maintained its home dominance with two goals before halftime to bust Reno 1868 FC 2-1 on Wednesday at Zions Bank Stadium.

MF Charlie Adams and FW Maikel Chang each scored their third goals of the season as the Monarchs improved to 9-0-1 at Zions Bank Stadium and 10-0-1 at home overall.  The win moves the Monarchs six points clear of Orange County SC (12-6-5, 41 points) and Phoenix Rising FC (12-5-5, 41 points) for the top spot in the Western Conference and two points ahead of FC Cincinnati (13-3-6, 45 points) for the best record in the USL.

The Monarchs controlled the action in the first half, but it was Reno that got on the board first.  On a routine ball in the middle of the field, Brian Brown fired a blinder from 35 yards out, catching GK Jake Leeker off his line to find the net to stake Reno to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.  Real Monarchs responded quickly on the other end, as Chang played the ball into the box for FW Chandler Hoffman, who laid it off for Adams. He fired a left-footed shot from the edge of the box to beat JT Marcinkowski for his third goal of the season in the 10th minute to even it up at 1-1.  Chang then gave the Monarchs the lead just before halftime when he too scored his third goal of the season.  On another solid buildup, DF Adam Henley got up the right side of the box and crossed to Chang at the edge of the box.  He hit a first-time shot inside the left post past a diving Marcinkowski to put the Monarchs up 2-1 in the 41st minute.

The second half brought a change of momentum as Reno looked for the equalizer, hitting the post twice, but the Monarchs held on for the win.
