Pioneer Day Goes "Royal"

Float Preview
In the hours leading up to Pioneer Day, Utah Royals FC celebrated the state holiday by signing autographs and meeting fans at the Mountain America Expo Center. As honored guests of the “Days of ’47 Float Preview,” Elise Thorsnes, Erika Tymrak, Katrina Gorry, and Sam Johnson each took time to talk to fans next to the Utah Royals FC parade float.

“When I got to Utah, I didn’t know what Pioneer day was,” said MF Katrina Gorry. “But now that I know, I think it’s awesome. This event is cool too.”
Utah Royals FC also offered the public a glimpse of their newest float, titled “Pioneering Women in Sport” – featuring the flags from all of the countries represented on the Utah side. The float is one of the largest attractions in the parade, and will carry various members of the team in the Salt Lake City route.
Coming Up
Besides the parade festivities, URFC will also be making an appearance on Saturday, July 21, at the Family Festival from 12 pm - 2 pm at the Salt Lake County Building in Washington Square (200 E. 450 S. Salt Lake City). Admission is free and will include an autograph and photo session with members of the team – as well as access to the event’s inflatable slides, obstacle course, and pioneer-era activities.

“I love getting out in the community and meeting young kids that want to become soccer players or are just interesting in sports,” said Gorry, who is celebrating her first Pioneer Day with the fans. “It means a lot to me that they would come out to the stadium to watch games and to come to these events to support us.”
The women will then make one final appearance on July 24 in the Salt Lake City parade, set to start at 9:00 a.m. in Salt Lake City. Aboard their newest float, URFC members will wave and throw candy in celebration of the historic holiday.
