NEW YORK (Wednesday, April 11, 2018) – Real Salt Lake (2-3-1, 7 points) fell behind early and couldn’t mount a comeback, losing to New York City FC for the first time in four meetings between the two clubs by a 4-0 tally on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
RSL had the first opportunity of the match when FW Luis Silva was on the doorstep, but his close-range shot was blocked by NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson. The home side capitalized on an early opportunity when a clearance was stopped at the edge of the box and Ismael Tajouri scored his fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute. New York City doubled its lead from the penalty spot in the 30th minute through Maxi Moralez, then in the 41st minute Jo Inge Berget got in behind the defense to make it 3-0 before the halftime whistle.
The second half saw the game open up for both sides, but New York City still held a 15-7 shots advantage in the half. The fourth goal came through a great sequence that finished with Ebenezer Ofori scoring his first goal of the season and though RSL had some chances, Johnson finished the match with four saves to earn the shutout.
MF Pablo Ruiz made his RSL debut, providing a second-half spark, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 3-0 first-half deficit as NYCFC raced to its fifth win in six matches this season, remaining unbeaten and atop the Eastern Conference.

KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS:

- FW Joao Plata did not make the trip after experiencing hamstring tightness at training on Sunday and stayed in Utah as a precaution.
