Here’s what you need to know about Utah Royals FC midfielder Diana Matheson:


  • An Ontario native, made her mark in high school at White Oaks Secondary School in Ontario where she earned a national championship in 2001.
  • Attended Princeton University where she was was voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2004.
  • Voted the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2007 and the Princeton Women’s Athlete of the Year in 2008.
  • A Canadian National Team Regular having made her debut in the 2003 Algarve Cup and scored her first goal in September 2001.
  • Has totaled 191 caps for the Canadian Women’s National Team.
  • Matheson scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute of Canada’s bronze medal game against France at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
  • Played in Norway from 2008-2010, playing with Team Strømmen.
  • Returned stateside in 2013 to join the Washington Spirit in the inaugural NWSL season.
  • Earned NWSL 2013 Best XI First Team as a midfielder.
