RSL at NER: Match Preview 5/13/17

SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 12, 2017) – Real Salt Lake (2-6-2, 10th West) returns to action Saturday evening in Foxborough, Mass., facing the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium for a 5:30 p.m. MT kickoff.  Saturday’s contest could see the debut of new RSL forward Jefferson Savarino, the 20-year old Venezuelan international signed to a Young DP contract earlier this week.

Saturday’s game will be televised locally via KMYU (coverage begins at 7:00 p.m. MT on 2.2 air / 12 satellite / 643 Comcast HD) with David James and Brian Dunseth on the call, and can also heard live via RSL outlets ESPN700 AM (English radio coverage starts at 4:30 p.m. MT w/ Bill Riley, Jay Nolly, Spencer Warne & Jeremy Horton) & 102.3 FM / 1600 AM (Spanish, Fernando Hortal & Nelson Moran).
RSL looks to rebound from three consecutive losses in the last three weeks – the club’s first 3-game slide since 2015 – during which it has been outscored 9-1, after winning the first pair of games earlier in April under new Head Coach Mike Petke, now 2-3-0 with the Claret-and-Cobalt. RSL has conceded three goals in each of those three consecutive losses, the first time in the club’s 13-year history it has allowed 3 or more goals in back-to-back-to-back contests.

RSL is winless on artificial surfaces in its last 17 games across all competitions (MLS and CONCACAF Champions League), dating back to Nov. 2013, when it won the 2nd leg of the West Final at Portland. Since that victory that advanced the club to MLS Cup 2013 in Kansas City, RSL is 0-12-5 on turf.

All-time, RSL does boast a 4-3-2 historic record at Gillette Stadium, one of the club’s two +.500 road marks over its 13 years in MLS (RSL is 1-0-4 at Philadelphia).

Coming in late Summer, 2017, Real Salt Lake's regional training center opens in Herriman, Utah, approximately 20 minutes southwest of Rio Tinto Stadium. The $60 million facility will serve as the daily training home beginning in 2018 for both of the club's professional teams – RSL (MLS) and Real Monarchs (USL) – while centralizing the club's U-18, U-16 and future U-14 development academy youth selections. The Herriman campus will provide adjacencies for an on-site charter school opening this Fall, with STEM disciplines (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) for nearly 300 boys and girls. View a recent photo gallery of the Herriman progress HERE.
In mid-November in North Logan, Utah, RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen broke ground on the first of a half-dozen regional training centers across Utah and Arizona to be built in the next 2-3 years.  Each $5 million RTC houses a classroom, as well as an indoor and outdoor field, dedicated to fulfilling a curriculum consistent with the club's vision and mission for youth soccer training and education, and the continued development of both recreational and competitive pre-Academy (ages 7-12) initiatives across Utah and Arizona.
