Elder Torres Olympics 0722

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, July 21, 2016) – Real Monarchs MF Elder Torres was called in by the Honduras U-23 National Team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Torres joined the Olympic team for pre-tournament friendlies earlier this month and will be on the roster when Honduras starts the tournament in August.

“We’re excited for him.  This is great for our club to have a player come and continue his development and get called in for such an important event on the world’s stage,” Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel said.

Torres, 21, joined Real Monarchs on loan from CD Social Vida in his native Honduras.  He has one goal and two assists in 12 appearances this year for the USL club, which is currently tied for ninth in the Western Conference at 6-9-4.

Honduras finished second in Olympic qualifying in October and will face Algeria (August 4), Portugal (August 7) and Argentina (August 10) in the Group Stage.  Honduras has qualified in three of the previous four Olympic tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in 2012.
