Save of the Year: Rimando and Attinella Square Off for the Year-End Honor

Jeff Attinella crouching

Which was Nick Rimando’s top save of 2015?  Was it his reaction save on Ricardo Clark against the Houston Dynamo?  Or his point-blank stop of Rodney Wallace in the opening weekend in Portland?  Perhaps his incredibly athletic stop of Chris Wondolowski in San Jose?  Or even his stellar stop on Jalil Anibaba in a road shutout against Sporting Kansas City?

How about Jeff Attinella?  Was it his denial of Jacob Peterson at home against SKC?  His stop of a blasted putback attempt by New England’s Juan Agudelo?  Or his outstanding stop of former RSL teammate Alvaro Saborio against D.C. United?

Through the power of the league’s website, you can choose which was the best.

Monday opened the voting for MLSsoccer.com’s Save of the Year voting, with all 32 Save of the Week winners from the season comprising the field in a bracket-style tournament to determine the yearly winner.

Real Salt Lake has seven saves in the running, with Rimando earning the weekly award four times and Attinella earning it three times.  At MLSsoccer.com, they apparently didn’t want too much RSL representation late in the tournament, so they matched the two RSL goalkeepers against each other in three of the matchups and pit Rimando against Columbus Crew SC’s Steve Clark in the other first-round pairing.
