QUOTE SHEET
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1-0 REAL SALT LAKE
SEPTEMBER 27, 2015; AVAYA STADIUM

Real Salt Lake
Head Coach Jeff Cassar

On the match:
“At the end of the day, we weren’t good enough tonight. We worked hard, we fought hard, but it wasn’t our night. And I didn’t think the refs were helping, but at the end of the day, it’s not their fault. ”

On the physicality of the match:
“It was pretty clear from the beginning they were going to come hard and heavy. The referee could have taken care of that earlier and kept waiting and waiting and prolonging it and the game stayed extremely physical.”

On playing without Javier Morales:
“We always miss Javi, but I just didn’t think our passing was great tonight. We were giving the ball away cheaply. I thought we went long too many times but have to give San Jose a little credit.”

On playing five matches in 16 days:
“We did look a little tired. And I think San Jose really came at us and it didn’t seem like we had quite the amount of energy in our attack. I thought we were expending a lot of energy defensively and maybe that was making us tired to get forward.”

Midfielder Kyle Beckerman

On what loss means to playoff hopes:
“I think we’ve still got a chance. Of course, you want to win every game but we’re not out of it. We still got a chance. Just got to win next week and that’ll put us in a better chance for the next week. We just got to keep going. I think tonight was probably a 0-0, 1-0 type game. Didn’t go our way, but I feel like we’re not out of it yet and we’re going to keep fighting until the end.”

On fitness:
“Was a little heavy today. Quite a few guys played 90. Just having a game day is a little taxing but we were there.”

On playing without Javier Morales:
“Unfortunate not to have him out but we believe in Luis 100 percent. It just didn’t happen for us today but everybody is still there, we are still together and we’ll keep fighting.”

Defender Tony Beltran

On the physicality of the match:
“Maybe it’s just the matchups, maybe it’s just the style of play of the two teams and the way they matchup against each other. Maybe it’s the circumstance – this is a must win for both teams. Both teams are fighting, battling out there and that’s the outcome.”

On the match:
“It wasn’t fluid, it wasn’t pretty. Obviously, we are missing Javier and he’s an enormous piece for us. Luis is a great player. I thought he did a good job stepping in there but it’s impossible to replace Javi.”

On the goal:
“From what I saw, it was a clear foul. But I’m not refereeing the game and I’ll have to take another look at it but I thought it was a foul on Luke. I thought he got pulled back. And then, you know, that’s soccer. A deflection –Nick saves that I’m sure if it doesn’t deflect and there’s the game.”
