SANDY, Utah (Monday, June 8, 2015) – Real Salt Lake has announced that Alvaro Saborio, Elias Vasquez and Abdoulie Mansally have all joined their respective national teams for matches this month. The trio joins a list of four players who already have gone on international duty this month.
Saborio joins Costa Rica for a friendly against Spain in Leon, Spain, on Thursday. The 33-year-old forward joins fellow MLSer Roy Miller, a defender with the New York Red Bulls, on the 23-man roster for friendlies against Colombia (a 1-0 loss on Saturday), Spain, Mexico (June 27) and the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. Costa Rica is coming off of a quarterfinal appearance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Saborio has 35 goals in 98 appearances for Costa Rica, tops in both categories on the current squad. With Real Salt Lake, he has three goals in 14 appearances this season and a club-record 63 goals in 127 matches since coming to the Claret-and-Cobalt in 2010.
Vasquez begins the qualification process for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with two matches against Bermuda, starting on Friday in Guatemala City and concluding on Monday in Devonshire, Bermuda.
The 22-year-old defender has 27 caps for Guatemala, including four in World Cup qualifiers prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In his first season with RSL, he has 10 appearances, all starts.
Mansally is set to join The Gambia for 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, where it was drawn into Group M with Cameroon, South Africa and Mauritania. He is scheduled to play on Friday against South Africa in the first game of the Group Stage in Durban.
With Real Salt Lake, Mansally has 12 appearances this season, giving him 37 in his three seasons with the club.
That trio joins a list of RSL players that have left for international duty this month that already includes Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman with the U.S. National Team, Boyd Okwuonu with the U.S. U-23 National Team and Jordan Allen with the U.S. U-20 National Team.
