SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Jeff Attinella has won MLS Save of the Week!
Attinella won the award for his solid double save on Colorado’s Kamani Hill and Dillon Serna in the second half of RSL’s 2-1 win over the Rapids last Saturday. The second-year RSL man narrowly edged out Houston defender David Horst, taking home 37.44 percent of the vote to the Dynamo defender’s 32.78 percent.
This is the third Save of the Week win of the year for Real Salt Lake and the second of Attinella’s career. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando – who, along with Claret-and-Cobalt Captain Kyle Beckerman was named to the U.S.’s final World Cup roster on Thursday – won Save of the Week honors in the first and second weeks of the season. Attinella won Save of the Week in his MLS debut last summer, earning the award for a big stop in RSL’s 3-0 win at FC Dallas on July 13 of last year.
Attinella and Real Salt Lake will return to action on Saturday, when they’ll host FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium. Saturday’s match is almost entirely sold-out; those who don’t have tickets can watch the match on ABC 4.
