Claret-and-Cobalt to Open Up MLS Regular Season Campaign at San Jose for Second Straight Year;
8:30 p.m. MT Kickoff Can be Seen Live on KMYU 2.2 / Comcast 22
After playing thrice in CONCACAF Champions League action across the last four weeks, Real Salt Lake will hit the 2011 Major League Soccer regular season with a running start on Saturday, March 19, when it travels to the Bay Area to square off against the San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff from Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. is set for 8:30 p.m. MT for a contest that will be televised live on KMYU 2.2 (Comcast 22, Dish Network 12).
After setting several club and MLS
records en route to an impressive 15-4-11 record and runner-up finish to the
L.A. Galaxy in the Supporters’ Shield race last year, the Claret-and-Cobalt
will set their sights even higher during a 34-match regular season slate in
2011. Saturday will mark the second consecutive MLS First Kick encounter between
Real Salt Lake and San Jose at Buck Shaw, and the visitors will look to stick
to last season’s script, when it took the full three points back to the Wasatch
Front thanks to a 3-0 win over the ‘Quakes. While RSL has gathered a .500 mark
(3-3-5) overall against San Jose, the Utah side is 3-1-3 against the second MLS
reincarnation of the ‘Quakes since 2008, including last year’s season-opening
victory in Santa Clara and a scoreless draw in Sandy last June 25.
