RSL, Sounders clash in academy action

Real Salt Lake and San Jose meet again - this time in the U.S. Open Cup.

The first all-MLS Academy clash of 2011 ended in a split over the weekend, as both Real Salt Lake and Sounders FC managed a win when the U-16s and U-18s matched up on Sunday.

Real Salt Lake’s U-18 squeaked past Sounders FC 1-0, Seattle’s third loss of the season.

That would be the Sounders only Academy loss of the weekend, as the U-16s returned the favor and beat Real Salt Lake 2-1, to go with a sweep of California club Arsenal FC on Saturday, whom Seattle's U-18s and U-16s defeated 2-0 and 3-1, respectively.

On a Northwest swing of their own all weekend, Real Salt Lake matched up on Saturday against Crossfire Premier, the other Seattle-based Development Academy side. RSL came out unbeaten on both levels, as the U-16s drew 1-1 and the U-18s put together a 3-2 win.

Out east, Saturday saw the top two youth clubs in Richmond square off. The Strikers were winners of the day, as the U-18s beat the Kickers 3-1, before the U-16s finished level at 1-1.
