In Washington, Chicago Fire attacker Marco Pappa helped Guatemala beat Central American neighbors El Salvador 2-0 at RFK Stadium. Pappa nearly opened the scoring in the 26th minute, but rifled a shot off the post.

But Fredy Thompson and Tránsito Montepeque scored for los Chapines, beating an El Salvador side that featured Chivas USA’s Osael Romero, San Jose’s Arturo Alvarez and Pappa’s Fire teammate, Deris Umanzor.
At Montreal’s Stade Saputo, Will Johnson played a big role in helping Canada topple Roger Espinoza and Honduras 2-1 for the Canucks’ first win in nine matches. The Real Salt Lake man was involved in the buildup of Canada’s bizarre first goal, then sent in the corner kick for Kevin McKenna’s eventual winner just before halftime.

In Monterrey, Mexico, Rafa Márquez wore the captain's armband, but had a second straight unremarkable performance for El Tri. Besides a crucial tackle in the box to quell a Colombia attack, the New York Red Bulls Designated Player had a relatively quiet 54 minutes of action before being subbed out in Mexico’s dramatic win.

In Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Colorado’s Omar Cummings’ hot hand carried over from club to country, as his rocket in the 18th minute at Lockhart Stadium helped Jamaica equalize against Peru. But José Carlos Fernández added a go-ahead goal in the 84th to give the Peruvians the 2-1 victory.
Cummings was one of two MLS players to start the match for the Reggae Boyz, alongside Kansas City defender Shavar Thomas. Houston midfielder Lovel Palmer, New York winger Dane Richards and San Jose striker Ryan Johnson – who all played in Jamaica’s win over Costa Rica on Sunday – were all second-half subs on Tuesday for Theodore Whitmore.
MLS’ lone South American on international duty was Columbus attacker Emilio Renteria, who went 67 minutes in Venezuela’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador in Caracas.
