RSL Home Unbeaten Streak Snapped

SANDY, Utah (Saturday, July 23, 2022) – Real Salt Lake (9-7-6, 33 points) 10-game unbeaten streak at Rio Tinto Stadium snapped with a 1-0 loss to FC Dallas. Despite leading in every statistical category, the Club couldn’t find the back of the net as FC Dallas solidified the three points on the road. RSL falls to 7-1-3 (W-L-T) at home this year, with Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni now 11-3-3 during his 36-game RSL career at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Looking to remain undefeated at home, Real Salt Lake pressed FC Dallas early, and Sergio Cordova nearly opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Jefferson Savarino laced a cross directly onto the forwards head, but his shot fell directly into the hands of Dallas’ goalkeeper Maarten Paes. However, it was Dallas who struck first when Jesus Ferreira netted his 12th goal of the season in the 14th minute, the second-most in Major League Soccer. The Claret-and-Cobalt saw its fair share of chances in the remaining 30 minutes of the first half, including a near-post header from Andrew Brody in stoppage time, but the team was unable to put any into the back of the net, leaving Dallas with the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Real Salt Lake controlled the majority of the possession throughout the second half, pestering FC Dallas’ backline to try and find the equalizer. The team had Dallas pinned into their final third, but RSL was unable to break through the staunch defense, suffering its first defeat of the season at Rio Tinto Stadium with the 1-0 loss.

UP NEXT: Real Salt Lake heads West to take on San Jose Earthquakes next Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m. MT before returning home to host LAFC on Saturday, August 6 at 8:00 p.m. MT.
