Lisa Johnson to Be Honored as Saturday’s RSL/American Express “Hero Among Us”

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Lisa Johnson, as Saturday’s recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” honor. Saturday’s “Cancer Awareness Night” at Rio Tinto Stadium is a fitting time to welcome Johnson as latest honoree, as she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and has since gone on to become the face of a breast cancer awareness campaign.

One year after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Lisa was nominated by Smith's Groceries, where she is a customer service manager, to share her story on select Kroger-brand food packaging, ultimately being chosen for her inspiring story and refusal to give up the fight against cancer.  Lisa then traveled to New York with nominees from other Kroger-owned stores to do a photo shoot with NFL quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Eli Manning for a promotion that was a part of Smith's "Giving Hope a Hand" breast cancer awareness program, which has raised more than $18 million since its inception in 2006. This year's campaign raised an estimated $3 million for the cause, of which more than $148,000 will be awarded to Susan G. Komen chapters and the American Cancer Society across the Western United States.
