RSL Academy Nets Results Against Sounders Academy

The RSL Academy hosted the Seattle Sounders Academy over the weekend in matches that saw all three teams come away with a result.

The U-15s played to a 1-1 draw as RSL’s Raul Marquez put away a headed effort off a corner kick early in the first half. Seattle would go on equalize before the break with a slotted ball through the middle to find Braden Ferreira. Both sides fought for a go-ahead goal that wasn’t meant to be to split the points in Herriman.

The U-17s topped the Sounders with a dominating 3-0 victory on Saturday when MF Kevin Mearse opened the scoring with a shot from the top of the box that found the bottom left corner of the net. FW Kevin Jimenez scored at the beginning of the second half beating the keeper 1-on-1 before MF Daniel Rojas finished the RSL scoring by out-dribbling the opposition to create an opportunity for the third and final goal.

The U-19s earned a dramatic 2-2 draw behind goals from MF Gabriel Sanchez and DF Erwin Martinez. Seattle’s Alec Diaz and Bryson Hankins each found the back of the net within the first 11 minutes of the match but Sanchez was able to pull one back with his headed effort that slipped below the crossbar. Martinez found the dramatic finish in stoppage time to head in a cross that found the top corner and earn the draw at Zions Bank Training Center.
