SANDY, UT (Monday, December 2, 2019) – Real Salt Lake has acquired $150,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $150,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) from Atlanta United FC in exchange for DF/FW Brooks Lennon. In addition, RSL will retain a percentage of future sell-on fees for a transfer outside of MLS.
“Brooks has been an integral part of the RSL family for years, starting with our Academy and excelling at every level along the way,” Real Salt Lake Interim General Manager Elliot Fall said. “To be able to get an offer of this value speaks to his development as a player. We are in the fortunate position that we have enough depth to make a trade like this and the Allocation Money we acquired creates an opportunity to further improve our roster.”
Lennon, 22, had three goals and 10 assists in 86 appearances over three seasons with RSL, starting in 63 matches. The RSL Academy product had three goals and four assists in his first MLS season in 2017 before converting to the back line for the 2018 campaign. In his second season, he had five assists from the right back spot and was voted RSL’s Defensive Player of the Year. In 2019, he started in 16 of his 28 appearances as both an outside back and a winger, finishing the season with one assist.
On the international level, Lennon was a key component to the U.S. U-20 National Team’s first CONCACAF Championship in 2017 and on its run to the quarterfinals of the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He has also featured for the U.S. U-23 National Team in preparation for 2020 Olympic Qualifying and has been invited to camp with the senior team.
Real Salt Lake finished the 2019 season third in the Western Conference and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals for the second consecutive season.
