AUSTIN, Texas (Sunday, July 18, 2021) – Real Monarchs (2-8-4, 10 points) dropped a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mountain Division foe Austin Bold FC at Bold Stadium on Sunday night.

A first-half goal from midfielder Juan Pablo Torres was enough to push the home side to victory on Sunday night.

Austin jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Torres in the 12th minute. After conceding early, the Monarchs saw multiple chances to bring the match level that didn’t materialize. Despite being pinned defensively for much of the first half, the visitors held off every Bold FC attempt to double the lead and the clubs entered the break with a one goal advantage for the home side.

Bold FC continued to attack throughout the second half, but the Monarchs continued to deny any Bold FC chance. Goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup made an incredible double-save to deny Austin on consecutive corners in the 65th minute to keep the Monarchs within reach of the road point. The Monarchs pushed for the equalizer as the final whistle drew nearer but Bold FC held strong to secure the 1-0 win.

UP NEXT: Real Monarchs welcome Las Vegas Lights FC to Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, July 23 at 8:00 p.m. MT. The match can be streamed on ESPN+ and locally on the KSL TV app.

GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:

ATX: Juan Pablo Torres (Ates Diouf), 12th minute: Austin midfielder Ates Diouf possessed the ball on the top-left side of the 18-yard box before finding Torres stepping into space on the opposite side. After gathering the pass outside the box, Torres sent a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper and into the left side of the net.

NOTES:

  • Defender James Moberg earned a spot in Head Coach Jamison Olave’s starting lineup for the first time since returning from injury.
  • With defender Haroun Conteh and midfielder Julio Benitez both in the starting lineup, the Real Monarchs fielded a lineup that featured two 15-year-olds in the match. Both players are products of the RSL Academy.
