Martinez Earns Team of the Week Honors

Nine different Real Salt Lake players have been named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week in 2016.  With his goal against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, Juan Manuel Martinez became the first to earn the recognition twice.

Martinez scored a 17th-minute header off a Javier Morales corner kick to stake RSL to an early lead.  Portland would take over the lead at 2-1 before halftime before a Yura Movsisyan PK equalized the match for good in the second half.

Martinez finished the match with the one goal to go with four chances created.  In addition, he was fouled seven times in the match, furthering RSL’s possession and opportunity to create from set plays.

Joining Martinez on Team of the Week were goalkeeper Bill Hamid (D.C. United); defenders Drew Moor (Toronto FC), Marc Burch (Colorado Rapids) and Saad Abdul-Salaam (Sporting Kansas City); midfielders Mike Grella (New York Red Bulls), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Jack Harrison (New York City FC), Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes) and Felipe (New York Red Bulls); and forward David Villa (New York City FC).
