SANDY,
Utah (Sunday, February 27, 2011) – The eyes of soccer fans across North and
Central America will be fixated on Sandy this Tuesday,
March 1, when Real Salt Lake
will play host to fellow MLS competitor Columbus
Crew in the second and decisive leg
of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Round series.
Kickoff from Rio Tinto Stadium –
where RSL will be looking to extend a 33-game
undefeated streak across all competitions dating back to May 2009 –
is set for 8:00 p.m. MT. After last
week’s scoreless draw in Central Ohio, Tuesday’s contest will be a
“winner-take-all” affair, and while a scoreless draw will send the match into a
30-minute “mini-game” – and possibly penalty kicks to follow – any other even
score after 90 minutes of regulation will give the series to The Crew courtesy
of the “away goals” tiebreaker.
Tickets
for Tuesday’s historic contest in Sandy remain available and can be purchased
online at www.RealSaltLake.com,
over the phone at 801-727-2700, or in
person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office,
Monday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MT. Fans that can’t make it down to Sandy
can watch the contest live on FOX Soccer
and Galavision or listen live over
the radio airwaves on ESPN 700 (America
First Credit Union Pre-match Report @ 7:00 p.m.), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM, and Homero 106.1-FM. Fans will also be able to
follow the proceedings from Rio Tinto Stadium via the club’s official
Twitter feed (@RealSaltLake) and MLSsoccer.com’s MatchCenter.
Real
Salt Lake and Columbus are both aiming to become the first Major League Soccer
side to represent the League in the CCL Semifinals since the tournament changed
to the Champions League format for 2008/09. The winner of the MLS showdown will
go on to face the victor of the Central American series between Costa Rica’s CD Saprissa and Honduran champion CD Olimpia, which Saprissa
leads 1-0 after Thursday night’s Leg One contest in San Jose, Costa
Rica. That series will conclude this Thursday,
March 3, with the second leg in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, kicking
off at 8:00 p.m. MT (live on Galavision).
