Nick Rimando has made so many impressive saves in his career that they have almost become routine. So it came is little surprise on Sunday when he was able to make a remarkable stop on a point-blank shot from Chris Wondolowski in the 51st minute of Real Salt Lake’s nationally televised match with the San Jose Earthquakes.
Shea Salinas raced up the left side of the box and crossed it to Wondolowski, who has 15 goals this season including six in his previous seven matches before Sunday. With nothing but an open goal in front of him, he got his touch to the ball and appeared to have No. 16 in the books when Rimando came from out of nowhere to make the save.
For his effort, Rimando is up for MLSsoccer.com’s Save of the Week for Week 30 as he looks to earn his fourth honor this season.
