Real Monarchs (0-2-2, 2 points); Austin Bold FC (1-1-1, 4 points)
Man of the Match: Head Coach Jamison Olave rolled out a three-man backline, allowing wingers like Noah Powder and Malik Johnson to move up the side of the pitch. 16-year-old Jaziel Orozco was tasked with carrying a larger defensive load. The centerback also had the team’s best chance at goal, but his header bounced off the framework.
Telling Stat: Despite the scoreline, the Real Monarchs managed to record 12 shots, three more than tonight’s opponent, but Austin’s defense was able to hold off the offensive threats.
What You Missed: A last-minute scratch to Jimmy Slayton saw 17-year-old goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup suit up between the pipes, making two saves on the night, including a big block in the 30th minute. Additionally, Columbian defender Kevin Saucedo made his debut for the club.
So What: Real Monarchs continue their road swing, facing Hartford Athletics on Saturday, May 29 at 5:00 p.m. MT, marking the first time the team has faced an Eastern Conference opponent since the 2019 USL Championship final against Louisville City.
