LAFC struck first after a long spell of possession in the 22nd minute led to Bradley Wright-Phillips tapping home into an empty net. LAFC doubled its advantage in the 27th minute when a quick counterattack led to Diego Rossi breaking in on the RSL goal before clipping the ball past Andrew Putna and into the far side netting. RSL pressed to cut the visitors lead in half but couldn’t find a goal as halftime arrived with LAFC leading 2-0.

Out of the locker room, RSL pressed for a goal and nearly found it from halftime substitute Sam Johnson but his header in the 57thminute went just wide of the frame. LAFC added a third goal in the 59th minute when Brian Rodriguez’s break inside the penalty area was clipped past Putna. Minutes later in the 64th minute, RSL got its goal when Silva’s thundering header found the bottom-right corner of the net after taking a deflection off of Eduard Atuesta for the own goal.

RSL looked to force a comeback that wasn’t to be as LAFC held on for the 3-1 win in Utah.
