USL Championship Title-Winner’s Roster Stands at Eight Ahead of 2020 Season

HERRIMAN, Utah â€“ (Monday, November 25, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC today announced its roster updates ahead of the 2020 season. The Monarchs have exercised contract options on two players from its 2019 USL Championship Title-Winning team and have signed one player to a new contract. The Monarchs have four other players already under contract for the 2020 season.


The Monarchs have exercised the options of defender Noah Powder and forward Kyle Coffee and have signed defender James Moberg to a new contract, making him the longest-tenured player at the club. Additionally, the Monarchs have secured a new loan for midfielder Ricardo Avila for the 2020 season. Forward Damian German, midfielders Sam Brown and Jordan Pena and defender Steve Jasso are under contract for the 2020 season.


The Monarchs announced that it has declined the loan options of Lionel Abate Etoundi, Luis Palma and Cristian Calix for 2020. Goalkeeper Evan Finney, defenders Konrad Plewa and Kalen Ryden and midfielder Jack Blake are out of contract. As previously announced, forward Maikel Chang has signed with Real Salt Lake, making him the ninth player to join RSL after having first signed with the Monarchs.


Real Monarchs SLC were crowned winners of the USL Championship in 2019, after defeating two-time defending champion Louisville City FC 3-1 in the 2019 USL Championship Final on November 17. The win marked the first championship for the club. In the 2019 playoffs, the Monarchs defeated Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, El Paso Locomotive FC and Louisville City FC to secure the club’s first-ever USL Championship Trophy. The Monarchs finished the 2019 regular season as the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 16-10-8 (56 points) record, including a resounding 11-2-4 (37 points) record at Zions Bank Stadium, tying New York Red Bulls II and North Carolina FC for the second most home victories in 2019.
