Man of the Match: Defender Stanley Okumu was a thorn in the side in the heavy pressure of the El Paso Locomotive attack. Okumu helped stave off the onslaught of corner kick opportunities, making an outstanding 10 clearances throughout the night and blocking a goal. Okumu consistently used his speed to shut out the El Paso attack, playing an important role on the Monarchs backline and earning Man of the Match honors.


Telling Stat: 5. The Monarchs defense staved off an aggressive El Paso Locomotive FC, blocking the five shots the Locos managed to make on target. Paired with forcing the Locomotive offensive to shoot seven off target and GK Andrew Putna’s four saves, Real Monarchs SLC managed to hold on to a road point.


What You Missed: Real Monarchs SLC moved to six games unbeaten with its third consecutive clean sheet. Andrew Putna made four saves throughout the night to shut out the opposition and helped secure the road point for the Monarchs. MF Jack Blake made his first appearance in the Starting XI after returning from his injury a week prior.


So What: After picking up the point in El Paso and paired with results elsewhere, Real Monarchs SLC moved up a spot on the Western Conference table, taking over the 6th position. The Monarchs return to Texas next week for another opportunity to pick up three road points when it plays San Antonio FC. The match-up in San Antonio is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 where kick off from Toyota Field is set for 6:30 p.m. MT. The contest will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
