REAL SALT LAKE DROPS 3-0 RESULT TO LAFC IN U.S. OPEN CUP
LAFC Attack Too Much as RSL Bows Out of U.S. Open Cup
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, June 11, 2019) – Real Salt Lake fell 3-0 to LAFC in the fourth round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The loss sees RSL exit the tournament in the fourth round for the second consecutive season.
LAFC jumped out to an early lead when MLS Golden Boot leader Carlos Vela curled home a left-footed effort from just inside the penalty area for the 1-0 lead. The visitors nearly doubled its lead in the 31st minute but the woodwork kept Christian Ramirez’s clipped effort over GK Nick Rimando out of the net to keep the halftime score at 1-0.
As RSL tried to weather the storm and find the equalizer, LAFC notched its second goal through Lee Nguyen as he curled home a breakaway effort in the 64th minute. RSL continued to press to bring a goal back but conceded a third goal in second-half stoppage time as Adama Diomande tapped a rebound home into an open net to bring the final score to 3-0.
UP NEXT: Real Salt Lake will return to regular season action on Saturday, June 22 when it visits the Chicago Fire. Kick off from Bridgeview is set for 6:00p MT and can be seen live locally on KMYU and the KSL TV app.
