Petke to Miss Open Cup Match to Attend Mandatory U.S. Soccer Course

Real Salt Lake Head Coach Mike Petke will not be available for RSL’s Fourth Round matchup in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while he attends a course for U.S. Soccer’s Pro Coaching License.  The course is mandatory toward the completion of the top coaching license offered by U.S. Soccer.

In Petke’s absence, RSL Assistant Coach Freddy Juarez will serve as Head Coach in the match.  Previously, Juarez served as Head Coach of the RSL Academy before landing the position of Real Monarchs SLC Head Coach in the USL club’s inaugural season in 2015.  He served in that role for two seasons before being elevated to his current role as RSL Assistant Coach prior to the 2017 season.  He has moved to the first chair three times during his tenure, earning draws in all three matches.

“Due to unfortunate timing I will not be able to attend tonight’s U.S. Open Cup game.  I will be in Minneapolis attending the U.S. Soccer Pro Coaching Course which is required licensing for me,” Petke said.  “The players, organization and I have full confidence in Freddy Juarez to lead the team tonight.  Stronger together.”
