Man of the Match: Goalkeeper David Ochoa made another explosive impact for the Monarchs for a second consecutive week. The young goalkeeper played a wall between the pipes, making an outstanding nine saves to thwart a heavy offensive attack from El Paso. Teaming with the Monarchs in front him, Ochoa put in an impressive defensive show to hold on to the draw, and once again earn Man of the Match honors.
Telling Stat: 18. The Real Monarchs defense played a tight ship making a total of 18 clearances on the night in order to help keep the score level. Paired with 14 interceptions and 19 tackles the Utah side put in exceptional work to shut down the visiting offense and secure the point at Zions Bank Stadium.
What You Missed: Real Monarchs SLC opened up its home slate with a second consecutive draw to start out the 2019 season. Noah Powder, Tate Schmitt and Damian German all donned the Monarchs jersey for the first time, adding their names to list of players who debuted for the Monarchs this season. After Kalen Ryden was shown a red card on 30 minutes, the Monarchs played down a man for nearly an hour of the match. The Monarchs still fought hard, applying pressure through out the match and playing compact defensively to pick up the clean sheet and the point after a scoreless draw.
