RSL U-15s Narrowly Lose to Portland 3-2

Real Salt Lake U-15 2-3 Portland Timbers U-15

Real Salt Lake scored just three minutes into the second round of matches in the 2018 Generation adidas Cup Fall Regional for the U-15 group, but the Portland Timbers came back for a 3-2 win at Zions Bank Real Academy on Saturday.  Chadwick Booth got into the box and hit a left-footed shot past the keeper to stake RSL to the lead in the third minute.  Jeff Dewsnup made two big saves minutes later, but Portland equalized in the 12th minute when Ben Augee found the net.  The Timbes took the lead in the 16th minute on a goal from Jhovany Gayton.  Scoring chances were limited over the final 20 minutes of the first half and the Timbers went into halftime with a 2-1 lead

In the first ten minutes of the second half, Real Salt Lake had two chances to level the score, but one was saved spectacularly by Spencer Brown and another struck the crossbar.  In the 53rd minute, Elijah Gozo found the equalizer, bringing down a ball out of the air and knocking it inside the near post to make it 2-2.  In the 63rd minute, Portland reclaimed the lead when Hakim Nizam’s header hit the bottom of the crossbar and in for what proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 final for Portland.
