Rusnák Scores For Club and Country, Netting Second International Goal in Friendly with Denmark

Albert Rusnák is on fire lately for Real Salt Lake, scoring five goals in the last three matches for RSL to lead his club to a three-game winning streak.


Despite a trip to the other side of the globe on Sunday, he continued his scoring tear on Wednesday for Slovakia in a friendly against Denmark.


Playing just the first half in the tune-up for Slovakia’s first match in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday against Ukraine, Rusnák scored in the 37th minute to give his country a 2-0 lead in a 3-0 victory in Trnava, Slovakia.  On a counter-attack, Juraj Kucka ran up the right side then cut the ball back to Rusnák just inside the box.  Taking a touch to the right side, Rusnák juked a defender then fired his shot inside the far post for his second international goal in 13 caps for Slovakia.


Playing in his second season for Real Salt Lake, the 24-year-old playmaker has 10 goals and seven assists in 26 matches, helping RSL to fourth in the Western Conference.  He has 17 goals and 21 assists in 56 matches since coming to MLS last season.


Slovakia will face Denmark in the first match of UEFA Nations League on Sunday in Ukraine.  In the tournament, Slovakia will play four matches in a group with Ukraine and Czech Republic, with the top finisher being promoted into UEFA Nations League A and the bottom team relegated to UEFA Nations League C.  The tournament finals will be held in June, with the winners of each league advancing to the UEFA Euro 2020 Finals.  This is the first year of UEFA Nations League.
