Sandy, UT (Friday, June 15, 2018) – Utah Royals FC (3-2-5, 14 pts., NWSL 6th place) is returning to the east coast once more to take on the NWSL’s only undefeated team N.C. Courage at Sahlen’s Stadium on Saturday, June 16, at 5:00 p.m. MT. This will be the second time these two teams have met this season, with the first match-up resulting in a 2-2 draw in late April.

URFC – who is tied with the Seattle Reign for the fewest goals conceded (8), -- will match-up against the highest scoring squad in the NWSL, bagging 24 goals so far. In just their second season as a club, N.C. Courage clenched a playoff position in early June, and leads the second place Seattle Reign by 12 points.

The teams played each other for the first time in URFC history last April, ending in a 2-2 draw at WakeMed Soccer Complex. The match was not only the Courage’s first non-win of the season, but the first time they had given up the lead in 2018. Goals from FWs Katie Stengel and Brittany Ratcliffe brought the team back from the one goal deficit, but a late shot from Courage FW Crystal Dunn equalized for the Carolina side.

This weekend’s match will be the third of a four-game road campaign for URFC, divided by a FIFA break window – which included an international friendly at Rio Tinto Stadium on June 7, between the USWNT and China, ending in a 1-0 win for the “Stars and Stripes.”

In the inaugural match at the RioT -- welcoming over 19,000 screaming fans -- FW Elise Thorsnes and MF Gunny Jonsdottir both found opportunities in front of the frame but were unable to capitalize. USWNT forward Amy Rodriguez also made her return to the pitch, subbing in late in the game after 363 days of ACL surgery rehab and recovery. A solid possession game gave URFC chances in the attack, but a world-class volley in the first-half from the Chicago midfielder left the team trailing 1-0 for a majority of the match.
