Brooks Lennon is here to stay. The 20-year-old was brought to Real Salt Lake on a permanent basis from English giants Liverpool F.C. after spending the 2017 season on loan at RSL. In his first season with the club Lennon scored three goals and added four assists in 25 appearances in his first MLS season, making 15 starts.
The RSL Academy product found his way to RSL and Liverpool after a storied Academy and youth national team career that saw him participate in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the CONCACAF U-20 championships during the 2017 season.
Playing with the RSL Academy in Arizona as a teenager from 2012 to 2015, Lennon amassed 51 goals in 68 games across all competition between the U-17 and U-19 teams, cementing himself as one of the most prolific names to graduate from the Academy.
Lennon joined English Premier League giant Liverpool F.C. in a high-profile move ahead of the 2015 season, spending time with the U-23 side during his time in England. Lennon tallied two goals in twelve appearances for the Reds in the 2016-17 Premier League 2 season.
Internationally, Lennon scored four goals, adding one assist while playing an integral role in the first four matches for head coach Tab Ramos’ team at the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Lennon’s top performance came in the team’s second match of the tournament when he scored a hat trick in the U.S. U-20s 4-1 win over Haiti. Subsequently he finished tied for second place in the tournament’s “Golden Boot” race for the tournament, just two behind Mexico’s Ronaldo Cisneros.
In the U-20 CONCACAF tournament final, Lennon scored his penalty kick against Honduras to open the shootout before fellow RSL Academy graduate and current RSL teammate Danilo Acosta scored the winning kick from the spot to send the team to the U-20 World Cup.
Making its way to the 2017 U-20 World Cup in South Korea with the CONCACAF triumph, Lennon together with the United States finished first place in Group F as Lennon scored one goal against Saudi Arabia in the final group stage match. Lennon tallied another goal in the 6-0 drubbing of New Zealand in the tournaments Round of 16 matchup, scoring the game’s third goal.
