Career Summary

Selected in the first round (12th overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.

The learning curve for Jean Alexandre continues to arc very much upward after a 2010 campaign in which the physical midfielder was one of Jason Kreis’ most used players off the substitutes’ bench. The education of the budding Haitian international was quickly accelerated last May, when he followed a starting nod for les Grenadiers at Argentina in one of the powerhouse’s final World Cup tune-ups with several appearances for Real Salt Lake in place of injured captain Kyle Beckerman. While his minutes in League play would dry up as the season progressed, he proved a key cog in the team’s run to the top of the CONCACAF Champions League’s Group A table, appearing in the final three matches, including a strong 90 minutes in the group-clinching 3-1 win over Cruz Azul in late October.

With the RSL Technical Staff’s definition of growth hinging on third-year players being fully productive members of the squad, some might consider 2011 a make-or-break year for the 2009 MLS Super Draft first round selection. No one would likely agree with that assessment more than mature Alexandre, whose quiet confidence, incredible physical abilities and growing poise on the ball should allow him to be a regular contributor for the Claret-and-Cobalt across all competitions this season. But Alexandre’s growth off the field might prove to be an even more important endeavor, as the 2010 RSL Humanitarian of the Year recipient is working to expand the academy he operates alongside his father in his birthplace of Verrettes, Haiti, allowing potentially hundreds more children in the impoverished nation educational opportunities and quality soccer training.
