RSL Falls 2-1 in Penultimate Match of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup

TUCSON, Arizona (Wednesday, February 20, 2019) â€“ Real Salt Lake fell to FC Dallas 2-1 in its second match of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup on Wednesday afternoon.


Sebastian Saucedo put RSL ahead in the 22nd minute when his curling shot easily found the top corner of the net after good pressure applied from Pablo Ruiz led to the turnover. RSL continued to press Dallas in the first half, nearly finding another goal in the 35th minute but Kyle Coffee was unable to turn the ball into the net as RSL took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.


Head Coach Mike Petke made no changes to his team at the halftime break, electing to keep the matches starting group in the match. The second half opened up much in favor of FC Dallas who found two quick goals to take the lead by the 60th minute. FCD drew level when Jesus Ferreira slotted home a breakaway in the 56th minute before Santiago Mosquera’s penalty put Dallas ahead in minute 60.


FC Dallas earned another penalty after Video Review in the 65th minute, but Nick Rimando was equal to the task, pawing away Dominic Badji’s penalty to keep the score at 2-1. A back-and-forth affair told the story for the remainder of the match as both teams jostled for possession with the match ending 2-1.



GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:


RSL: Sebastian Saucedo (Pablo Ruiz), 22nd minute: With midfielder Pablo Ruiz applying pressure in the attacking third and winning the ball, Ruiz found a wide-open Saucedo inside the box. Saucedo easily set up a shot that found the top corner for the lead.


FCD: Jesus Ferreira, 56th minute: A giveaway out of the back from RSL gifted the ball back to FC Dallas with space to break. Ferreira easily broke into the box and slotted home the equalizer.


FCD: Santiago Mosquera (Penalty), 60th minute: RSL defender Tony Beltran brought down an FC Dallas attacker inside the area, giving Dallas the penalty. Mosquera calmly dispatched the penalty past Nick Rimando for the lead.
