RSL Falter In Second Match of the Season

Man of the Match: New signee Andrés Gómez came on as a substitute in the 60th minute for just his second Major League Soccer regular season appearance. Gómez was sharp off the bench, injecting some much-needed energy into the RSL attack. In 30 minutes of play, Gómez recorded a 100% passing accuracy and had one of the team’s two shots on goal.

Telling Stat: The shutout loss marks the first time Real Salt Lake has been held scoreless since September 14, a 3-0 loss to Austin FC. It was also RSL’s first loss against Seattle across all competitions since June 23, 2021, having won four in a row against the Sounders.

What You Missed: After an opening week victory in Vancouver, Real Salt Lake fell to the Sounders at Lumen Field 2-0. The hosts looked to get on the board early in the 9th minute when Héber beat Zac MacMath, but Justen Glad slid across the goal-line preventing Seattle from taking the lead. It wouldn’t last long however as Jordan Morris headed home a cross from Alex Roldan in the 35th minute. Alex Roldan assisted another goal in the 58th minute for the Sounders when his pass connected with Héber inside the box who slid the ball past MacMath.

What’s Next: Real Salt Lake will host Austin FC in the home opener at America First Field in a rematch of the first round of the 2022 MLS Playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT.
