RSL Academy U17s Fall Short of GA Cup Playoffs

FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, April 12, 2022) – In its third and final match of the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup, the Real Salt Lake Academy U17s fell 2-1 to Houston Dynamo.

The RSL Academy U17s got off to a slow start as Houston took the lead on a goal in the 17th minute. The team fought back and scored in the 28th minute after midfielder Jude Wellings cut through three Houston defenders, to find Terron Williams open in the box to calmly put it away, knotting the score at 1-1.

The Claret-and-Cobalt looked to have the go-ahead goal just moments into the second half when Williams took off down the left flank, drawing out the goalkeeper before crossing the ball in towards Axel Kei, but a last-second run from a Houston defender saw the ball go out for a corner kick. It was Houston who eventually found the back of the net again in the 55th minute to put themselves ahead 2-1. Despite consistent pressure from Real Salt Lake, the team was unable to find the equalizer, finishing out the group stage short of qualifying for the playoffs.
