FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Saturday, September 21, 2019) – Real Salt Lake (14-12-5, 47 points) went on the road without several key players, but emerged from Gillette Stadium with a scoreless draw against the New England Revolution on Saturday night.
GK Andrew Putna made three saves to earn his second clean sheet in just five starts this season as RSL made eight lineup changes from its previous match against Minnesota United FC as it started a stretch of three matches in nine days.
In a scoreless first half, New England held advantages in possession (57%) and shots (5-4), but Real Salt Lake held managed two shots on goal to one for the Revolution. In his return to Gillette Stadium after playing seven seasons with New England, MF Kelyn Rowe had both of RSL’s shots on goal in the first half, both of which were saved by Matt Turner and the teams went into the break knotted at 0-0.
The Revs applied offensive pressure throughout the second half, leaving RSL with some breakout opportunities, but could not get onto the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Putna and the Salt Lake defense kept New England’s attack at bay, limiting the home side to just two shots on goal out of the team’s 18 shots in the second half. In the end, the defense held strong and earned a valuable road point.
UP NEXT: Real Salt Lake returns home to face the LA Galaxy on Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Prior to the match, the club will celebrate the 2009 MLS Cup championship team and at halftime, RSL legend Javier Morales will be honored for his 10 years with the club. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT.

- Since returning from the Gold Cup break on June 22, RSL has the best defense in MLS. In those 16 matches, RSL is 8-4-4 with eight shutouts and a league-best 0.69 goals against average.
- The starting 11 had 39 combined appearances for the Monarchs in the USL Championship this season.
- With home matches against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday and the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, GK Nick Rimando, DF Nedum Onuoha, MF Kyle Beckerman, MF Albert Rusnák and FW Jefferson Savarino remained in Utah.
