Real Salt Lake Drops Pacific Rim Cup Final 3-1

HONOLULU, Hawaii (Sunday, February 10, 2019) – Real Salt Lake finished off an otherwise solid week in Hawaii with a 3-1 loss to V-Varen Nagasaki in the Pacific Rim Cup final on Sunday at Aloha Stadium.

RSL got a goal from FW Julian Vazquez and several saves from GK Andrew Putna, but couldn’t hold off the Japanese club.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, RSL pulled one back in the 84^th minute through Vazquez, but the comeback effort was short-lived as Nagasaki went back on the other end with a quick strike for the 3-1 final score.

Real Salt Lake now departs for Tucson, Arizona, where the club will finish preseason with four matches in two weeks before returning to Utah.

GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:

VVN: 20^th minute – On a cross from the left side, Nagasaki got a boot to the ball to put it back across the goal, bouncing it off the far post and in for the 1-0 lead.

VVN: 39^th minute – On a counter-attack, Nagasaki put a shot away from near the penalty spot to make it 2-0

RSL: Julian Vazquez (Andrew Brody) 84^th minute – A loose ball fell to Andrew Brody and he touched it to Julian Vazquez 25 yards out.  He put it on his left foot and fired a shot that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and in to pull RSL within a goal at 2-1.

VVN: 85^th minute – Nagasaki didn’t waste any time in extending its lead back to two goals, getting free up the left side and putting a shot past Andrew Putna to make it 3-1.
