Real Salt Lake Concedes Again Late to Drop Home PointsÂ
SANDY, Utah (Wed., Aug. 19, 2026) – Real Salt Lake (8-7-4, 28 points, 8th West / 14th MLS Shield) saw its MLS winless streak extended to six games Wednesday, falling late, 3-4, against FC Dallas (9-5-6, 33 points, 5th West / 9th MLS Shield) in a stunning seven-goal frenzy at America First Field.
Rookie Sergi Solans scored RSL’s first goal of the evening in the 38th minute, extending his active four-game scoring streak, the Spanish-born striker now with five goals in six August matches. Tonight’s goal also extended Solans’ lead atop the Club’s Golden Boot race, with nine MLS goals in 2026 and 13 in all competitions. French-born forward Morgan Guilavogui scored his second career MLS goal - and third overall for RSL - to bring RSL within striking distance early in the second half. A 64th-minute equalizer for Diego Luna would end the 11-game scoring drought for the RSL talisman.
RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made two personnel changes to the starting XI from Saturday’s return to MLS action, a 1-1 draw with Minnesota. DeAndre Yedlin returned from suspension to replace Zach Booth on the right, while Guilavogui returned from concussion protocol to his attacking midfield slot.
Strong off-ball movement and intricate passing from the Texas side made it difficult for Salt Lake to gain any meaningful possession early on. Dallas opened the scoring in the 17th minute, as the ball ricocheted around the penalty area before finding its way to Joaquin Valiente at the top of the box, where he unleashed a wicked left-footed curler that found the back of the net.
Three minutes later, Dallas found itself in another dangerous position inside the RSL penalty box. Valiente swung in a left-footed cross toward the back post, where MLS Golden Boot leader and Croatian World Cup striker Petar Musa rose high to score a towering header and double Dallas’ lead.
With seven minutes left in the half, Diego Luna swung in a low, driven cross into the six-yard box. Sergi Solans was the first to react in the crowded penalty area, applying the finishing touch with his right foot to guide the ball into the top-left corner of the net. RSL nearly found a second goal within a minute, as Luna’s cross found the head of a wide-open DeAndre Yedlin at the back post. The former USMNT right back powered his header into the ground and toward the feet of the Dallas goalkeeper, but bounced the ball up and over the crossbar.
Dallas would extend its lead in the 45th minute, as Kamungo would enter the penalty area, playing a clever ball back to the penalty spot, where Valiente would lay it off for Musa, who calmly finished past a diving Rafael Cabral as Dallas went up 3-1 at halftime.
RSL came out of halftime looking to change the momentum, as Luna found Noel Caliskan inside the penalty box. The German-born midfielder brilliantly lifted a left-footed cross in the 50th minute to a wide-open Guilavogui in the six-yard box. Guilavogui fired a right-footed strike into the net for his second MLS goal of the season - last versus San Diego on April 18 at home - but his second in back-to-back appearances, providing the game-winner last Tuesday against Juarez in Leagues Cup action.
Shortly thereafter, Guilavogui made a dangerous run down the right side before neatly rolling the ball out to Saba Lobjanidze. The Georgian international delivered a cross to the back post, where Luna peeled off the shoulder of the Dallas defender to create enough space to rise and head home the equalizer in the 64th minute, his first goal since May 9 at Dallas, 11 RSL games ago.
Real Salt Lake generated a late chance in the second half, as JuanMa Sanabria’s left-footed cross flashed across the face of goal, with Solans just inches away from connecting with the ball and providing a go-ahead score.Â
FC Dallas broke the hearts of 20,632 in the 91st minute, a late, low-driven shot from Ran Binyamin that weaved its way through two RSL defenders before beating a diving Cabral to take all three points.
RSL now heads to Orlando this Saturday, August 22, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MT. On the heels of that road match, RSL then matriculates to Denver, resuming its Leagues Cup campaign against Liga MX side Club LeĂłn in the neutral-site Quarterfinal match. Kickoff on Tuesday, August 25, is set for 8:30 p.m. MT, streaming on Apple TV.
