THE RSL ACADEMY PATHWAY

Real Salt Lake Academy’s pathway, while singular in naming, is a unique and dedicated track laid out for each individual player within the academy system.

HOW IT WORKS

Players join the RSL Academy in Herriman, Utah at the U15 age level, however, based on their skill they may fluctuate between the U15 and U17 levels, to provide sufficient competition for each individual player. The academy teams compete in the MLS NEXT, which runs during the calendar year with a tournament in the winter and the MLS NEXT Cup in the summer. Additionally, the U17s compete in the United Premier Soccer League to allow the older players to face steeper competition, closer to what they will find at the USL Championship.

TRAINING WITH THE PROFESSIONALS

Training stints with Real Monarchs and Real Salt Lake can happen at any time and the duration for which can fluctuate based on varying circumstances. If a player is deemed ready to be tested at the professional level by the staff of the Club, a duration and environment conducive to their success will be created. It is important to highlight that a professional training stint is not deemed a success based on whether or not the player continues to train and play with the professionals. In many cases, and based on the profile of the player, it is important to take a step back to the academy in order to continue moving forward. These schedules are constantly evolving in the best interest of the footballing success of the player, and are designed, adjusted, and managed by Club staff.

WHEN DOES MY CHILD EARN A CONTRACT?

The goal of the RSL Academy is to develop athletes and young men of their highest potential. For some, this will include signing professional contracts with Real Salt Lake, or Real Monarchs. For others, it may be attending college and continuing to play soccer at this level. It is important to note that each player will have their own unique path. Some will see opportunities at an earlier age, while others may take time to develop. When the technical staff feels it is time to promote a player, parents and guardians will be informed of the decision and given an abundance of information.
