Real Monarchs Fall 2-1 to El Paso Locomotive

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, June 18, 2021) – Real Monarchs (1-5-2, 5 points) fell 2-1 to El Paso Locomotive in a hard-fought match at Zions Bank Stadium.

El Paso took all three points with goals from Aaron Gomez and Macauley King, while Milan Iloski netted the team’s consolation goal late in the match.

The Locomotive opened the scoring in the first minute of the match with a goal from Gomez. The Monarchs then experienced more misfortune as two players went down with injuries and had to be substituted within the first 30 minutes of the match. Adversity aside, the Monarchs defense buckled down and allowed only one shot on target throughout the remainder of the first half.

The intensity increased in the second half, but the Locomotive doubled the lead in the 70th minute with a set-piece goal off of a corner kick. The home side were the aggressors for much of the half and found a deserved goal in the first minute of added time in the form of a free kick from Iloski. Despite creating a few more chances down the stretch, the Monarchs came up empty and the match ended 2-1.
